Editing

   Today was my second day of editing my music video. Next class i will have 40 minutes or so to finish editing the rest. In my first day of editing i checked all of my footage. I choose all of the one i was going to use and make sure i didn't need to re film anything. But i didn't have anything to film again because i was satisfied with all of my work. I choose the shots. Corrected anything. For example, cut off any of the unnecessary parts of the shots. Place them in order and make sure they go to together, and if they don't then fix it. I added some simple editing. I added a dissolve and a fade in and out at the beginning and end of the video.

   In this class which is the second day i added more stuff that will improve how it looks like. So it can look like my genre. I added a special effect halfway through were it made sense. I added a brightness and contrast tint, and i tried changing it to a more brighter color than white, like blue or pink, but i couldn't. i still have to add the music but i didn't have enough time to find the music and edit the music to how i need it.

 Next class i don't have to much work to do. I only have to find the music. i tried getting it off of YouTube but it didn't work. So, next class I'm going to do that. I finished all most everything today because i don't have the whole class to complete the music video so today i finished everything i could. I am happy so far with how my music video looks and if i have any left over time next class before the deadline i will add other things i think about like adding another tint or color on top to make it look more lively.

Filming

 Today I finished filming. My second time filming was last week Wednesday up to today Monday. During the process I setup much quicker. I knew how everything is suppose to go and how to set it up and record. But first I had to decorate and help my actors get ready. I put up the part scenery by placing cups everywhere, streamers, and balloons. Since I filmed l over the weekend two weeks ago I didn't have much to film.

 Since I have experience using the equipment everything was much easier this time. With my first project I was confused the first time, I was confused nervous and excited. But this time I feel much better. I can do a much better job this time. I setup the scenery so I can look like how I want it to look like, and I told all of my actors, my siblings, where they go and what to do. I guided them and they did a great job. I thought they would laugh and be much dificult to work with. But I had no problems. I took it easy while filming, I finished pretty quickly.

 I was really happy with all of the takes. I only had to film 2 scenes twice because of a little laughing but it was all ok. I can't wait for editing. I fell like I nailed it all, and I got enough time to make it one minute and ten seconds. Everything went much smother and with the editing I can do a much better job to make it not look as choppy as before. This time I will stay on task and work all the time to do a great job.

Storyboard

   I drew my storyboard while listening to the song to have an idea of how the story will be. The time for the Video should be a minute 15 seconds or 5. I drew 12 boxes, and each box represents 5 seconds. So I have 1 minute. But it will probably be longer because of the dancing scenes which will be longer than I made it seems. I know exactly how I want my video to turn out so I will make sure everything comes out as I invisioned it. Next I'm going to talk about C.L.A.M.P.S and C.A.M.S.

   Clamps stnds for costume, lighting, actors, makeup, props, and scenery. For costume it would be a dress and some accessories for the main character and the rest nice clothes but that doesn't stand out as much as main character. Lighting is extremely important for the genre pop. The lighting must be bright, with bright colors, that pops out. Actors, there will be one main actor that will be a female plus some background characters. Makeup will be used a lot because that's n important part of the genre pop. props will be party stuff like the red Solo cups, pizza boxes, and jelwery. Scenery will be my house. The bedroom will be an important part, and will be most of the video.

   Cam stnds for camera angle me movement. The angles in my video will mostly be eye level, and the next one will be high angle looking down at actors. Movement will be pans side to side. Also some tilt at the very beginning. For editing I won't edit to much because it mainly the performance of the actors for pop. It will have fades, dissolves, and maybe an iris but not black, but shots like a flash back. Also I'm going to add tints and filters to boost colors in the video bacuase they are used a lot in pop. In pop it also includes lots of close-ups of actors faces, pan, and long shots of dancing or some other type of performance.

Planning

   In my new project I'm not going to film in school, I'm filming out of school. In my first vlog explaining this new project I said I was doing the song counting stars, but at the last moment I decided to change it. I choose Last Friday Night by Katy Perry. This song seemed easier because I know this song more and the first one I had no good ideas. So that's why I changed it because it would be more beneficial to choose a song I knew more.

   The location will be were I live and no other location. That is the only place because it will be a party in a house. It will be in multiple rooms. In the filming process of my film I won't have any health and safety issues but when preparing and decorating, I will have to stand on something to set up the party streamers everywhere. The props will be the iconic solo red cups that are used in every party, also some empty pizza boxes, confeti, and glitter. Costumes will be party clothes, dresses, some nice clothes. I will only have 3 or 4 more actors so not much props will be used or costumes. But I will make it seem like 50 or more people are at the party. Props will be used by background characters more than the protagonist. Another part of the costumes is accessories and makeup. If possible makeup will be used and lots of jewelry should be used because that's common in this genre.

   Next is my schedule for the whole process. Without a schedule I will be lost while preparing this project . On the Saturday and Sunday, the 23rd and 24th of November, it will be my first day of filming. I will setup the decorations to make it look nice and neat. The second half will be filmed first so the afterward the decoration will look messy for first part. During break I think I am able to film and the decorations will be stored and setup again on first day of break. For all of those days will film first half and any redos. When school starts I will edit for the rest of the time.

New project: Music Video

   A few days ago we finished the Commercial project. I filmed a commercial and my product was Gatorade. The part i was best at was the filming process because it was an easy set up and i can know how to control the camera to film what i want to film. The part i didn't like was editing because the editing software was kind of slow and it was a really long process. Also in editing, i had a few inconveniences too. My new project will be much easier because its a music video. I don't have to film myself or on campus. I'm going to find actors and a perfect setting to film. I feel much better making this with the experience i have gained in the previous project.

   The song i choose is Counting Stars by One Republic. The genre is pop or teen pop. This genre of music is easy to make a music video because it has clear conventions and a mis en scene. It is really simple and all pop music videos are the same. the song is about love and i have come up with a story following some of the lyrics. Since the video has to be a 1:15 I'm going to have to use only a part of the song because it is too long.

Conventions-

   Common conventions in Music videos are: tints and filters in the editing to boost the colors. It doesn't have a narrative and it is mostly based off of the performance of the actors. The music is mostly on relationships, break-ups, and parties. So the music video has to be based of that.

1.Costume:Common costumes are dresses and tuxedos, or fancy clothes because of the party. They also have lots of accessories.

2.Lighting:Bright colors, and light lighting is really common. Also being dark in the night or a poorly lit room.

3.Actors:Actors will have to dance and perform. Some of the music video is dancing so they will have to dance.

4.Makeup:In pop music videos they use lots of makeup to make all of the actors look perfect.It is always used in pop.

5.Props:Props would be party supplies, flowers or romantic things.

6.Scenery:The scenery will be decorated to look like a party and to look slightly sad because it will be a break-up. It will be dark in some of the scenes.

Sound and Editing-

   Sound of course will be the music and the editing will be adding tints and filters to video. There will be lots of  close-ups and long shots of dancing/partying scenes.

Final blog

   Today i was editing. Last class we started to edit our commercials. I got a laptop and opened my one drive. The class before that i saved it to my google drive by dumping it on a desktop. I searched my files and imported all of my takes. Onece all of them got imported onto the program i began to choose my shots. I went through all of my takes ans choose the best ones to use as my shots. I used the best ones. One i found them i added them to my video. I set them in order. My next step was to trim. I had 50 secs worth of footage. Most of it was extra seconds so i can make the transitions as smooth as possible. I added a fade in and a fade out to my commercial and blended everyhing together.

   Next class was a PSD day and was really short. I quickly got into class and room the same laptop. Last class 5 mins before class ended my laptop died and i thought it wouldnt save. But i opened it uup and i was so hlad everything was there. I worked by adding more footage and trim the last parts. Noe i have exactly 30 secs. 20 mins into class its ays battery low 10% and only 11 mins left.  I panicked and worked quicker so i would be done. I searched up the stock image of the gatorade logo u would use and the words i would have next to that.

   After 10 mins. My laptop shutdown. I already have saved my picture and was starting to edit more when it turned of. I was so frustrated and ancious and i panicked. I didnt know what to do so i decided maybe i should get another laptop. I turned the laptop on and everythibg was fine. Until i opened pinnacle studios. As soon as i turned it on kt crashed. Then i tried and tried again. After 3 more tries it wouldt even load at all. I was so frustrated becuase i thought i was going to fail and the bell was going to ring in 3 mins. So i sent my teacher a message saying what had happened. All i have left to do is add the logo at the end by adding it in the title section and same thing with the words. I also have to add cuts and other special effects.

Filming blog

   I forgot to make this blog, oops. So im making it now and i know my grade wobt change but i still want to write it so i can express myself.

    The first day i filmed was on monday the 25th. I got a camera, tripod, and a pass from my teacher. I had my own SD card so it can only be my work on it. I was only recording in one place so i went there. The field. I took some time signing out the camera and tripid so i list some time. When i got there i wasnt the only one. A bunch of other groups were also filming and a class was outside for class. I got so nervous with so much people outside. I really embarassed and barelly filmed. When i was setting up i couldnt figure out how to attach the camera tl the tripod. I knew how to do it but i couldnt. I was trying to detach the piece that was suppose to. But nothing worked. 10 mins later after trying i realized the piece was already off. I checked in the bag and it was in there. I was so angry at myself for not realizing.

    Next i set up the camera ready to record. My SD card was añready in there and a message appeared saying something is wrong with my SD card. I couldnt figure it out. After taking it out and the putting it back in i read it and it said micro sd card adapter. I tyen realized why it came with a micro sd card. I was frustrated now becuase nothing was goubg how i planned it too, and now i couldnt figure out how to record. The button wasnt by the display or next to it. So i pressed every buttob. But i couldbt find it. Then i realized it was on the back on the other side.

    I also filmed yesterday. I went outside to film again. This time signing out a camera went much smoother. I got outsude in time. It wasnt as full with out a class but there were less groups. I felt so much better this time. I set up quickly, everything ready to go. I somewhat got nervous. This time i feel like my takes came out better. I felt much better about yesterday and i even finished earlier thwn my first attempt.

Editing the commercial

 Last class i recorded my commercial. So today we started to edit out commercial. Pinnacle studios the software we use to edit iur commercials isnt working. So i couldnt edit. I at least stored all of my footage/takes on the computer i will be using. Today i cant really do much. I decided to go outside and film more. I saw what needed improvement, everything, and filmed that. Now i feel that it is much better. I went outside to the exact smae spot and used markers like a tree or lines in the track to know where to positions my film and the camera. I went back inside to edit my footage. I filmed for around 30 mins. 

  When i got back the teacher announced that pinnacle studios wasnt working. She said it was down for everyone. I didnt know what to do. I just looked over my footage and decide which takes to use. I choose the best takes to use. They werent perfect but ehh. I saved all of my footage to my google drive. So i could see it later. 

  I dint know what else to do so i tried using pinnacle studios and there wasnt any on my computer. The teacher said that some computers dont have it. It took some time to save my files on my google drive becuase i have 55 takes. That is alot, and i might only use about 6 or 8. Each take is around 5 seconds long plus the extra time for editibg so its a clean smoth transition. Im going to plan my editing now. At the begining im going to have a fade in to the opening view of the field. Next its going to smothly transition to me runibg in the track with a dissovle or some other transition. Next im going to take out all of the unnecessary ports of the shot like the begining and the end. Next im going to make the transition of my shots smooth so it seems like one whole take.

Storyboard

     I have made my storyboard today for my commercial. I have to list all of the angles, movements, shots, editing, split screen, etc.

·Most of the shots with me in it will be medium close ups. Waist up.

·The only other shot of me is a close up, when i drink the gatorade.

·At the begining the camera will move to the right really quickly, and then i would run to center of camera.

·At the begining the commercial will start by fading in.

·The camera will zoom in in between boxes 5 and 6(scenes, idk)in my storyboary.

·The camera will be in point of view most of the time.

·In boxes 4 to 5 the camera will move down slightly making it a low angle.

·Point of view on last box with gatorade bottle.

·Im going to try and add a special effect when the gatorade logo and a cool phrase appear. Im going to have to choose when i edit, so i can see them all.

·At the end the commercial will fade out when its over.

Editing Lesson Blog

     Hi, Today in class we had a really important blog. We learned about editing and the recording process. First, we learned about the camera. The camera is small and has a little touch screen that is like a phone. If that is open then the camera is on but if its closed then the camera is off. The camera has a slot for the SD card and goes is smoothly. The charger is on the back. The little white button is to record and to stop recording. The tri-pod has to be extended, the legs and also the top too. It has a metal plate on top that can be taken off and has to be screwed onto the camera. Then it has to be put back on. The knobs and lever are to move the camera for different types of shots. So that,s all about the camera.
     Next, editing. The software we use is pinnacle editing. We use the card reader to dump all of our footage from the camera to computer. The camera also comes with a cord to dump everything when we don't have a SD card reader, but it doesn't work as well as it used to. The footage must be dragged off and placed into a folder. It is in DCIM in the SD card. Organized by date and time. Just in case its not there go to private then avchd, next folder, stream, and then look for it. Next step is to Import our footage. We have to import all of our footage. So we can chose the shots when its on computer, so we don't take to long with the SD card reader.
    Editing beginning. first hit edit board once program has loaded. Hit import then + sign/desktop, uncheck all and chose my footage, And the hit import. Next, Drag all of the raw footage, which is footage that hasn't been edited, to Av track 2. Track 2 is for building on the footage. Track one is for titles. track 3 is for adding music or voice-overs. It has to be finished loading, finished until orange bar green. It can crash computer. Actual editing stuff. Drag play arrow on clip then click on razor blade and then delete unwanted clip to make a cut. To get more options right click on footage to get a list of options. You can dissolve, fade, etc. Also, you can go to effects editor. Hit t to add tittle. Type in title, click add, then drag to track 1.
     Finally, exporting. It is getting footage from program to your desktop. Next to import is export. Hit Mp4 which is video and 3 is music. Choose best quality and start export. Click save as, name it put in original folder, and let render. rendering helps it to be smooth. Close the top two tabs that appear and minimize original editing one. Watch footage to check for correct rendering, and if not export again.

Planning

     Hi, So today I'm planning my Commercial, to get ready to film on the 21st. I have an idea of what I'm going to use as a costume, props, schedule, location. But i haven't thought of a backup plan. I haven't really thought of it. I thought of everything I'm going to need and i know what to do to start filming.Here are all of my ideas:

•      Costumes, for my costume i might wear like a football/soccer jersey or something like that. I'm going to pretend to be an athlete. So i look like i fit in and drink the Gatorade.
•      Props, for my prop of course I'm going to have a Gatorade bottle. Maybe a normal sized one, because the small and big ones are to big/small. Another prop i might use is a soccer ball or a football or another type of ball.
•      Schedule, as soon as i get to class I'm getting a camera and then going to the football field to record. I think that's the only place i have to go. I might go to a court yard to find something to put the bottle of Gatorade on to make the cool slogan. Actually I'm going there first to have a full bottle of Gatorade, so i don't have to bring in two bottles of Gatorade. On the second day I'm going to edit everything and cut out all of the unnecessary things. I actually don't need to much editing. Fade in from Gatorade logo, then a cutaway to a new bottle of Gatorade, and finally I'm going to add the cool slogan on top of the bottle.
•      Location, the locations I'm going to are the football field and somewhere outside that faces the field and is kind of like a table. In the field is where most of the commercial is going to take place. Afterward is the scene of the bottle getting put down on a table. Somewhere near the field and where you can see the field. I'm going to have to find a place good enough. So, I'm going to look for the spot for the last scene first, then record the rest.
•      Backup Plan, thinking of a backup plan for me was hard. I don't really have much more options if it starts raining. First i thought if it starts raining it might make a cool scene with the dark clouds and maybe lightning. But, i might not get permission to film in the rain and the equipment might get damaged. So, my next idea was to go to the gym to film. If it does start to rain I'm going to get confirmation i can go to gym first.

     So, that is my plan for the next few days of recording, editing and finalizing my commercial. I think everything is going to be good and workout. I am confident that I'm going to do a good job and my commercial is going to be similar to an actual Gatorade commercial.

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions and Codes

     Hi. Today i start my commercial project. I have chosen Gatorade. I chose Gatorade because Gatorade ads are always playing. Especially during any big athletic events. I researched conventions and codes of Gatorade ads. 

     The thing the is most common in every ad is an athlete drinking it. The second thing is where the sport is usually played or a training facility. It also shows them training and then drinking it. Another common thing is them drinking it before a big game or a person drinking it and then cutting to the next person also drinking one. In an ad i saw a lady playing basketball drink some of Gatorade and then started to play. She then won the game and everyone celebrates. After the win a bottle of Gatorade appears With an epic slogan like Nothing Beats Gatorade.                                                                                    

     Another common thing is having famous Athletes drink there product but someone like me a student can't do that. To not offend anyone i saw that the ads had both women and me playing sports. It was equal. Some ads centered around women athlete and others men.

     Something cool i noticed int he older ads, is that they have cool effects like lightning. The shots usually take place in the dark/at night. In an ad they tried something new. Making a running person using a machine that drops water and it created the silhouette of a person running. Words that are motivating also appear in big clear text. Music or a voice over is usually used as the sound. In the voice over they say good things about Gatorade and say how every time you drink one you are a winner.

Introductory

      Hi, my name is Rigoberto and i go to Fort Lauderdale High School. I am taking AICE media studies and this is my blog for the class. I am a really creative person. One of my hobbies is drawing. I love to draw. My favorite subjects are math and science. I am great at math and its easy to me. I like science because of the experiments. Experiments  are really cool and fun to do. They are so awesome and i love to see the outcome. I'm not a really sociable person. I prefer to be alone because its awkward when I'm with a group of people. I never know what to say and i just stay quite. 
     I am taking this class because it seemed really interesting to me . Its a class about the process of making films. I always wanted to know exactly how movies are made and the process that happens to produce them. I also like that we have to make a mini movie at the end of the year, i am extremely exited but nervous at the same time. I'm nervous because i never have any goods ideas and cant come up with anything original. The first project we have is making a commercial. I like it, i want to make a commercial. Commercials are really short and it seems easy to make it. But i think  commercials actually take a lot of effort. 
     So, more about me. I'm a sophomore, so its my second year in high school. I know everything now but kind of still get lost. I like high school so far. I am not in any clubs, but i want to join some. I want to  join a club so i can be apart of things i like and make friends with the same interest as me. I also like watching movies. You can just relax watch a movie in the dark, in a silent room, and it last for an hour. Also movies are hard to make and i was interested in how they're made. That's another reason that i choose this class. Another thing i want to learn about is art. The history of art is really interesting an i didn't even know there even was and history to it. I'm not a really interesting person but that's all about me.
