Title Research: Guardians Of The Galaxy Bol. 2

I couldn't find any sci fi movies, so o checked the genres of the Guardians Of The Galaxy and it was sci-fi fantasy. It had 31 titles which is alot. The first two movies had about 20. They are a cool electric blue color and gold/bronze metal. The camera follows Groot the whole time. Following him dancing. Some importance on the Guardians and them fighting the space monster on the back. Them fighting is regular and is what they do. Groot is a strategy to appeal the audience becuase everyone loves him. Lots of technology is used. Cgi to make some of the characters like rocket racoon, Groot and even the monster.  The other three most likely have some cgi and makeup. Editing, not much is used becuase the camera follows Groot the whole time.

Title Research deadpool

I found another movie. This one is newer, it's deadpool. It is sci-fi action. The other one was sci-fi drama. This one was way better and also made me interested ain what happens next. Also in art of the title.
I counted 15 titles, plus the marvel one that always appears. That one is 15 second long and the others a second or two. These titles were interesting. Less titles than the first movie I researched. Instead of the real names it had funny jokes like, real heroes name, overpaid tool, and cgi character. It was interesting how it was a time freeze. I wanted to see how they got into that situation and what happens afterwards. There were a bunch of guns and weapons, becuase it's a violent movie. The time freeze caught my attention. The camera movies through all the floating objects. All of it is close-ups becuase there isn't much room inside a car, and we get to see there face and reactions.

Title Research: Innerspace

It was almost impossible to find a movie but I did. Innerspace, it's an old movie from 1987.
There were 21 titles and each only last for about 2 seconds or so and then a pause for the next one. The images of the rocks or metal, which turned out to be ice. It was eerie and made it seem otherworldly. The genre, the rock seemed to be from another planet at the beginning, sci-fi. The music to, seems like a synthesizer. The appeal is to attract the audience. I was confused with what was happening and wanted to see more. The technoly was old. Since the movie is old. The sound is good and the camera angle are the same. Some medium close-ups of the guest facez pan shot of the whole party. The title, first 2 minutes actually caughty attention.
I used art of the title. In watch the title I couldn't find any.

movie Title Research: Aquaman

I did another superhero movie and surprisingly this is also a sci-fi, fantasy movie. There were 31 titles in the beginning, just like the last one. There weren't really any people in it. It starts in the land and goes into the ocean to symbolize aquaman. Importance is out on the statues under the water that is telling the story of what is about to happen or happened. I believe most of it might be cgi becuase it had incredible detail and definitely caught my attention. Monsters and lights made out of crystals and rock. Fight scenes that are frozen and add suspense.

Title Research: Watch the Titles

I did more title research because ii really need it, and don't know anything about them. I kind of got how many and when they should go. But I have much more to learn. I used a different website this time.
This webdyhas feature films, student films and even has video games. I didn't need anything else other than feature. Under feature there were movies. They had no specific order, some were old movies. It had way more films. Some of them I haven't even heard of.
This website was way more helpful than the first one. It even has a picture of the films name. But it was confusing becuase some were shows not films.
On this website it was also only the first 2 minutes with the titles. This website was also helpful and helped me better understand the titles. Now I know how to make them look. The font, and that the order is important and director is always last.

Title Research: Art of The Title

So I have started to do research for titles. I researched one website today called art of the title. It has a bunch of opening sequences from popular movies, of any genre. This would help me get ideas on where to places my title. How many. How far apart from each other and a good way to incorporate it with out making it look forced. So it can blend in but stand out.
This first website has top 10 Title of the year. It is very helpful, becuase I can see what they did so I can learn it the best way to do it. Below it has more films that are really good. They are Fairly new made in 2019. I went under feature to find more that are good. The top 10 lists. Under titles to look at titles.
This is great so I can add the titles to my films and make it look as good as possible.
This helps alot becuase I don't know anything about titles. I usually don't pay to much attention to it. I look away or skip them.Doing this research has been really helpful.

Movie Research: Annihilation

This movie is mostly sci-fi but it also has some horror aspects, which seems to be common. Camera angles we're almost alwaysedium close-ups of chest and higher. Had some tracking shots. A little p.o.v / low angle in beginning and middle scenes of interrogation. Costumes were casual or nice, suits. Lighting was light but got darker when were intoduced to the man. Actors had simple movements. Props were not really used but there were some weapons like guns. Some cut a ways when moving from person to person at beginning, and jumpt cut to show night and next day. It was mostly dark and had videos of particles and cells of alien creatures. I like the scenes of science and of them running into forest with gear and weapons but disliked the monster becuase it creepped me out.

More Movie Research: Resident Evil Afterlife

I watched two horror\thriller sci-fi movies so far, for research. They are pretty similar. Not all of it is sci-fi, only the monsters. In this movie, the zombies are the science fiction, the giant underground lab, and the super powers of the main character: to have super speed, strength, regeneration, and make copies of herself.
The common camera angles and movements where:

  • Close-Ups
At the beginning, The main character records herself, and talks about how everything has been so far. We see it through the camera and see only her face.
  • Pan
There are lots of pans. At the beginning when she runs after her friend, the fight with the giant axe zombie, and when they fight the boss of the umbrella company.
  • Tilt
When she flies her plane there are some small tilts when she turns or dives.
  • Tracking Shots

When the plane crash lands and they get off, tracking shot of them walking and in the basements. There are a few.

  • Long Shot
Lots of long shots, when they enter the ship and free all of the people.

Costumes-Worn down clothing that has tears on them, or minimal clothing. The members off the umbrella company have suits and some have military uniform.
Lighting- Bright in the beginning, but once we see destroyed city's it gets darker. In the prison it gets way darker and creates a tense and lonely mood.
Actors-Perform some stunts when killing the zombies, especially big one, and also the boss.
Makeup-Not much, they have dirty faces with cuts.
Props- The best one is the coin gun the main character carries on her back, but others are weapons.
Settings-Alaska, The prison, Arcadia (the boat), and Tokyo ( original base of umbrella)
Non-Digetic sounds are used for zombies and rest is digetic.
Editing, lots of cuts, and cutaways are used to switch between characters and fight scenes.
I liked the zombie part of the movie and how the whole ship was a trap. Also the end scene.
I didn't like that everyone died except for the brothers an that the guy came back, it was kind of predictable.

Movie Research: BiRd BoX

The movie Bird Box is sci-fi thriller. The common camera angles are Close-Ups and Extreme Close-Ups to see the eyes and how they change when they were the monster. Tracking shot is also a really important part of this film, so we can follow when she travels throught the river and the forest. The costumes are old dirty clothes, and warm clothes becuase it's cold and windy. Lighting is mostly dark but gets lighter at the end. Makeup isn't really used, but thier faces do get dirty sometimes with dirt and scratches.
The sound is digetic and only a few scenes with non-digetic sounds, for example music playing. The sounds of birds chirping and the sounds of leaves blowing in the wind.
The editing is interesting. The movies switched back and forth in the past and in the present. So it would be cutaways and cross cutting. For the begining to the end.
The whole movie has an eerie feeling to it, because we know when the monster is here but we never actually see it, and the movie is sci-fi, because that monster doesn't exist. I like that the movie had lots of digetic sounds, the sounds of birds. I also liked that it was dark and it was creepy and mysterious. I didn't like that it was gory and you can see blood and hear the sounds of bones cracking and knifes stabbing people.

MAKING MY DECISION

So, I made my decision on which pitch I choose to make my movie on. I choose my first idea, the sci-fi one. I just really loved the idea of memories and dreams. It's rarely used and it's a cool concept. The actually filming isn't going to be hard becuase I won't need to film scenes in space or places like that. Costumes won't be to hard and makeup. I already know how the beginning is going to go. Camera angles and movement won't be hard, and my setting is going to be the city. Editing might be hard, looks of cross cutting.

Movie genre Further Research

I researched two more movie genres: Sci-Fi and Romance. To know more snd help me better make a decisions for which movie idea I want to choose.
First C.A.M.S, I. Sci-fi there is mostly extreme long shots and pan shots. A common sci-fi takes place in space and other places like that, from far away. In romanece, there is alot of over the shoulder, because they have conversations. Also, two shot, because the two that are in love usually spend time alone, only two. In romanece, they also use tracking shot when they walk somewhere.
  Second, C.L.A.M.P.S.
C- In sci-fi the costumes are more futuristic and robotic, but in romance thay're more generic and everyday clothing.
L- In sci-fi it has a cooler tine to give it an eerie and mysterious look, but in romance a more warm to give it happiness and covey the emotion. Romance also had brightness and shadows are important.
A- In sci-fi it could be robotic and abnormal, something from another world. In romance it could be romantic gestures that show thier feelings.
M- Makeup for sci-fi would depend on the type, in another world it could be alien. In romance it's generic makeup, everyday or lots of makeup for a date.
P- In romance it can be gifts, like choclate, flowers, rings, or jelwery.
S- In sci-fi it can be outer space or a different world/planet/dimension. In romance it can be Urban, for example in a school or a local dinner.
In sci-fi it has its own editing and sound. Most of the sound used in sci-fi comes from a synthesizer because it's eerie and otherworldly. The editing is VFK. Simple visual effects are always used.
In romance the editing and sound are, simple editing, and cutaways to show the two people, and sound depend on the mood, sad or happy.

Movie Research: The Martian

The Martian is Sci-Fi fantasy. The martian has an establishing shot of planets, i'm pretty sure its mars. Most of the Camera angles are long shots, to show how the person interacts with the planet. Also a lot of tracking shots of when he travels to places on the planet. The costumes are Space suits, and actors performs pretty normal task. Props are food and regular things. Setting, is space and at the end an alien spaceship. In the last scenes everything get weird.
Editing, lots of cut a ways, sound is non digetic, because we don't know how mars sounds like.
I liked that is was about space and aliens. I didn't like how it started to get confusing at the end.
Aliens are really common in sci-fi, people love to add them in movies. Also, the discovery of new planets, that humans can live on.

Movie Genre Research PowerPoint

I created this PowerPoint at the beginning of the year. We chose randomly a movie genre. I got Dance. I did research, searched common lighting, sound and other stuff that is usually seen in those types of movie. I also searched up examples of that movie genre and added it to my PowerPoint. I gave example, and explained it a little bit, for each description of the genre. I made this PowerPoint myself, by researching up stuff on the Internet. I didn't add to much words, and i added a few picture to help explain and give examples.

Chosing my top two Pitches

I have chosen my favorite two Pitches that I came up with.
       1. Sci-Fi about dreams and memories merging with reality and how we see it.
       2. Gangster film about a gang taking over a city, which causes chaos and doesn't have a good end.
I loved all of my ideas but these two I thought were more original and creative. Both were more interesting to me and I thought if I did those It will be much more better.
The reason i choose  number one was becuase it's sci-fi and I love sci-fi, also the concept  about dreams and memories almost never is done in films. Also it would be cool to make, becuase it's going to be a lot of editing and filming.
The reason I chose number two as my top two was that I like watching movies that involve organized crime to get revenge or achieve thier goal. In my idea there isn't a happy ending to the story. That idea was more interesting than horror and creative.
The one I ended up chosing for my project is Sci-Fi. I love sci-fi and it would be amazing if I did it. I also love the idea about dreams and memories. I also have a good story for this one.

Starting the Final Task

Hi my name is Rigo and I am in AICE Media Studies learning about films and how they are made, the whole procces that a director goes through to make the movie. This is my first blog for my last film which is part of my final test for this class.  So far I have made two films since I started this class. A commercial and a music video. I am working byyself becuase that's just how I concentrate more and work fastest.
Just from making those two films I have learned a lot. What I can do the best is in the actual filming and editing. I know who to use the software really well and I know everything the camera and tripod can do to get the most perfect shots. I know how to do everything else but those are the two things I feel I am the best at, and can easily do. Today in class I thought of three ideas for my class, and I wrote a pitch in all three. Pitches are short and explain the idea some one has for a new film. In class we are doing elevator pitches Wich means they are 30 seconds long, same amount of time it takes an elevator to get to the next floor. The pitch is to explain my ideas and see which one gets approved. My three pitches are:
1. My idea is of a sci fi movie that explores dreams and memories and how we interpret things, in our minds and try to distinguish reality from dreams.
2. My second idea is a gangster movie, of organized crimes happening around a city that slowly take over the city and gets over run by criminals.
3. My final idea is a horror movie, it's going to be about a hunter arriving at strange town looking for paranormal creatures that terrorize the residents of the town.
